The Trust have objected to the sale of the ‘strategic’ Council-owned property at Kings Stable Road to Peveril Securities/Campus Design Management Limited who propose (yet another) hotel and student housing-led development.

The Trust agrees with local residents who would prefer to see additional permanent residential accommodation, particularly much-needed affordable and family housing.

Commercial confidentaility on the property deal means the public do not have access to council official recommendations or committee discussions.

The Trust believes that the council, as current landowners, should have been far more proactive in directing future uses that strengthen the Old Town community.

Update at 24 March 2015:

The Trust wrote to the Convenor of the Finance and Resources Committee, City Centre Councillor Alasdair Rankin, in advance of their meeting on 19 March 2015 (see our letter) however the land sale was ratified. The property deal is likely to be contingent on gaining planning permission so the next step will be public consultation by the developer.
