Treasurer & Board Member
About us
The Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust is a local charity dedicated to the Old Town of Edinburgh. Founded in 2009, our mission is to provide community for the residents of the Old Town. Our vision is a vibrant, welcoming and sustainable Old Town for everyone who lives here.
We provide a range of community services year around to people living in the Old Town Conservation Area and the neighbourhood of Dumbiedykes. Our community hub off the Canongate, the Crannie, hosts a wide variety of activities and events. Our initiatives include our Art Club, Music Circle, Create & Connect, Creative Writing, Cooking Club, Community Lunch, Crannie Pantry, Crannie Amblers, Digital Drop In, Open Days and Upcycling Group.
We are a Scottish registered charity and a Scottish limited company. Our membership is comprised of residents of the Old Town and Dumbiedykes as well as friends who live outwith the Old Town. Together, we work to build a better Old Town for everyone who lives here with us.
About the role
We are looking for a Treasurer, who will concurrently serve as a company director and charity trustee of our Trust.
As a Board member, the position involves participating in decisions on the charity’s strategy, sustainability and development. In particular, the Treasurer considers financial evidence and provides financial analysis. The Treasurer also supports our Finance Officer with the annual budget process and by reviewing bimonthly management account presented to the Board.
We seek someone with strong numerical skills, accountancy experience and expertise, experience in financial accounting packages, knowledge of the workings of charities, strong written and spoken communication skills, and an interest in community issues. Residence in or near the Old Town of Edinburgh would be ideal, but certainly not required.
Time commitment
Around 4 hours per month. Board meetings take place monthly in person at the Crannie, our community hub off the Canongate, Edinburgh. However, management accounts are only presented every other month. Training is provided for new Board members by the Chief Executive Officer, in addition to ongoing support as required.
How to apply
Please contact Jackie Cropper, Chief Executive Officer, by email to express your interest.
